MOGRA CHILDREN’S HOME NUPSA BAKE SALE

MOGRA CHILDREN’S HOME NUPSA BAKE SALE

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! Abiding by the Christmas spirit usually embodied by acts of kindness and love, Nairobi University Pharmacy Students’ Association (NUPSA) in collaboration with Kenya Pharmacy Students’ Association (KEPhSA) organized to visit Mogra children’s home to spend time and have fun with the children. This was to be a joint event with other local chapters offering Pharmacy. Funds were to be raised by the chapters to facilitate the event.

The strategy embraced by the NUPSA team to raise funds was the NUPSA Bake Sale to ensure that adequate funds were raised before the 18th of December, 2021 (the deadline for submission of the funds attained by the various local chapters to the KEPhSA Treasurer).

A   poster was made by the team to inform UoN pharmacy students in their various class groups about the bake sale that was scheduled to run from the 7th of December, 2021 to the 18th of December, 2021. The NUPSA treasurer in the post stated that all proceedings from the bake sale were to be directed towards the Mogra Children’s Home Christmas Drive. In collaboration with an outsourced supplier, preparations and transactions were made that to ensure that there were cupcakes to be sold on the 7th till the 18th of December, 2021.

The bake sale was successfully carried out from the 7th till the 16th of December, 2021. It was ended earlier due to absence of physical classes at the Department of Pharmacy due to the imminent closure for the Christmas break. The bake sale was carried out in the various classes at the Department of pharmacy, once in Chiromo, in the KNH tuck-shop and in the KNH Blocks as well as Soweto. Each cupcake was sold at 30 Kenya shillings and various flavors including vanilla, lemon, chocolate and red velvet were made. All the NUPSA committee members were major part-takers both as consumers and sellers of the cupcakes. They include Bryan Arusei (Chairperson), Walter Oluoch (Second Vice-chairperson), Lenny Ongori (Secretary General), Ochieng Stephen (Organizing Secretary), Yvonne Kwambi (Media and Publications Officer) and Ismail Marere (Pre-clinicals Representative). NUPSA collaborated with a number of other people who assisted with the selling of the cupcakes and they include Mumbi Ngata, Nduta Ndirangu, Jean Kasudi, Patricia Kuria and Tiffany Njeru. A total of 9475 Kenya shillings was made from the bake sale as well as from the contributions made. This was later sent to the KEPhSA Treasurer.

The NUPSA organizing Secretary, Stephen Ochieng was in charge of attaining information concerning all UoN pharmacy students who wanted to attend the Drive on the 21st of December, 2021 and thus made calls for registration within the designated period.

Various items including Jogo flour, porridge flour, rice, biscuits, juices, sweets, sugar, salt, pens, pencils, karatasi books, huggies, masks, sanitizers, hand wash, toilet rolls, bar soap, pride detergent and a medical donation box were purchased and handed over to the Mogra Children’s home administration on the 21st of December, 2021 by the KEPhSA executive Team and the Representatives from the various local chapters. The event started at around 9:00 am and ended by around 12:00pm.
